    Bonsoir.

    Plays are usually divided into a number of acts (five in Greek tragedies or in Shakespeare's plays), themselves divided into scenes.

    Stage-directions describe the scenery, the atmosphere, the action or give information about the characters' appearance or their tone of voice. In some scenes, there is mainly conversation or dialogue between several characters. Sometimes, a character is given a long speech, which means that he speaks for a long time.

    He can address other characters, address the audience (it is then called monologue), or talk to himself when alone on stage (it is then called a soliloquy)

    A few words said by an actor for the audience only, not to be heard by the other actors on stage, is called an aside.

    Explications :

    dialogue = dialogue

    monologue = monologues

    acts = acte

    aside = aparté

    speech = réplique

    stage-directions = des didascalie

    soliloquy = monologue / soliloque

    scenes = scènes
